Halloween Extra Credit Photos

If we wanted some extra credit, then we had to go to a cemetary where we used slow shutter speeds and manual focus to blur the people in the front, but the headstones were sharp and clear. These pictures are of my brothers (age 5 and 11) in the Murray Cemetary between 6:40 and 7:00 o'clock at night on Tuesday 27, 2009. It started to hail at the site when we first got there. This added a bit of "spookyness" to the photo.

Assignment #4 High Key / Low Key

This assignment was an assignment that I needed to come down to the Photo Lab to finish the importing and the printing and the uploading to the blog and everything in between. I liked this assignment. The assignment is as hard as you make it. The tripod was a big help here. I LOVE TRIPOD!!!! High Key was white on white and Low Key was black on black.

Irving Penn-Portraiture and Fashion

Irving Penn was a photographer whose photos were way ahead of their time and weren't appreciated until the modernist years. He brought increasing drama to the pictures by putting his subjects into tight, unorthodox spaces. While his photography career bloomed, he was known as a post World War II feminine chic and glamour photographer.

At the age of 25, he went to Mexico to be a painter. After a year, he decided that he would not ever be more then a mediocre painter. He has been named one of the top 10 Photographers in the World in a international poll conducted by Popular Magazine. At that time, he said, "I am a professional photographer because it is the best way I know to earn the money I require to take care of my wife and children."

Irving Penn died on October 7, 2009 in his home in Manhattan at the age of 92. He has pictures in New York, Paris, and London including many museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.

Assignment #3- Bracketing

This assignment was a challange. We used a tripod, thank goodness that I had one. These two pictures are a "before-and-after" shots. We reformed the "after" photo to include a little of black and a little of white. With this in mind, I can improve and make a better photo.
